30 Hurt In Cruise Ship Crash

Nineteen passengers and three crew members on a cruise ship carrying European tourists bound for Ontario, Canada were injured when the vessel crashed into a lock wall. The ship hit the wall while entering a lock on the St. Lawrence Seaway, which is located in Northern New York State.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the 286-foot Saint Laurent which was headed from Montreal to Toronto struck a wall in the Eisenhower Lock in Massena. Most of the 273 people on board the ship were mainly French and Swiss nationals.

The cruise ship’s operating line, Fleet Pro, based in Miami, is owned by Adventure Owner Ltd. Located in Nassau, Bahamas said in a statement that the 22 people who were injured in the incident were treated for minor injuries and released at Massena Memorial Hospital.

The crash is currently under investigation.

When you are on vacation, the last thing you want to think about is being injured in an accident. When an accident happens aboard a cruise ship, it is handled differently than other kinds of accident or personal injury cases. Different laws govern such a situation such as maritime law, international law, admiralty and also contract law. All of these different areas of interest must be taken into consideration when determining the outcome of personal injury lawsuits.

If a passenger is injured as a result of a maritime accident, they must act quickly in order to preserve their legal rights. If a cruise ship passenger is injured during a cruise, usually the passenger must give written notice to the cruise line of their intent to pursue a claim. Passengers who have suffered serious injuries or the surviving family of someone who has been tragically killed while on a cruise may have a year or less from the date of the accident to file a lawsuit. That is why having a competent personal injury and accident lawyer working on your side is so important.
